Comparison of Mineral Content , Electrophoretical Fractions of Protein , Glycoprotein , and Maleic Dehydrogenase between Spur Buds and Shoot Terminal Buds in Delicious Apple Tree

Abstract
This study was designed to: 1) compare the sizes of spur buds of two strains of `Delicious¢¥ apple (Malus domestica Bork.) collected from different areas; 2) determine if mineral element content differed between spur buds and shoot terminal buds; and 3) measure differences in organic compounds, such as protein and glycoprotein, on enzyme activity in spur vs. lateral buds.
The results obtained are as follows:
1) Spur buds of Starkrimson were larger than those of Red Prince. However, size of Starkrimson buds varied much more between areas than did those of Red Prince.
2) Ca content of spur buds was higher than that of terminal shoot buds, and bark of spurs had significantly higher content than did bark of shoot. Mg showed reversed tendency to Ca.
3) Shoot terminal buds had remarkably larger number of protein fractions than did spur buds and shoot lateral buds. Protein fractions presented in lateral buds of shoot were different from those of spur buds in bands and peak.
4) Glycoprotein differed little between spur buds and vegetative buds, regardless of cultivar or area.
5) Malate dehydrogenase fractions appeared more in vegetative organs than in spur buds.
